Published in JAMA Neurology.1 a population based prospective cohort study with longitudinal follow-up looking at disability trajectories after stroke compared with myocardial infarction (MI).
Turns out compared with MI disability trajectories after stroke are markedly increased greater than 3 fold. This increased trajectory was also markedly different than before either stroke or MI.
The take home message according to the authors: In addition to the acute event, stroke may be associated with treatable long-term adverse events that result in accelerated functional decline.
