Cannabis, Stroke, and Heart Failure

Video

An abstract presented at ACC 2017 explored the cardiovascular effects of cannabis use.

A population-based study examined 20 million hospital discharge records and compared  316,000 marijuana users to patients not reporting marijuana use.

After adjusting for confounding variables, the risk of stroke was increased by 26% in marijuana users and the risk of heart failure was increased by 10%.

Given the upswing in medical and recreational marijuana use, clearly more questions need to asked-and answered.
